The 5 Things to Know Today – 6 November 2026

1. Fighting continues across the Kivus

FARDC and FRN forces fought around Kibati in Walikale and along the Lutunkulu–Nzibira axis in Walungu on Thursday. Residents fled Kibati toward Kashebere. Government-aligned forces reportedly retook Mahanga and Kilongo in Masisi, while drone strikes attributed to the FRN targeted positions near Mindjendje.

2. Government threatens prosecution over proposed Kabila meeting

Moïse Katumbi says C64 leaders plan to meet former president and FRN leader Joseph Kabila in Goma. Interior Minister Jacquemain Shabani warned that meeting him without government approval could lead to prosecution. The proposal follows an internal dispute over whether C64 should mediate between Kabila and President Félix Tshisekedi.

3. Pay disputes disrupt Ebola response

Workers at Butembo’s ITAV treatment center began a strike over more than 45 days of unpaid compensation. Staff at a separate center in Oïcha say they have gone four months without allowances. A diagnostic laboratory is operating at Biakato, and MSF has built a six-bed transit center elsewhere in Ituri.

4. DRC and IMF reach staff-level agreement

The DRC and IMF staff agreed on reviews of the country’s credit and climate-resilience programs. The IMF is pressing for tighter fiscal procedures, while Kinshasa seeks financing for costs linked to the war and Ebola. The IMF board is expected to consider the reviews in December.

5. UN documents rise in sexual violence

A UN report documented 491 rights violations and abuses affecting at least 1,264 people in the DRC in August. It counted 230 women and girls subjected to conflict-related sexual violence, more than triple the previous month’s figure.
